  • Netherlands - Low Pathogenic H5N2 Avian Flu in Poultry

    april 3, 2015

In Milheeze in North Brabant province bird flu.has been detected at a poultry farm It is a mild H5-strain.

Since this form can mutate into a dangerous, highly pathogenic variant, the animals are culled on the farm, according to the European regulations.

The farm has around 12,000 laying hens in three stables with outdoor access. The culling is done by the Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority.

    transport ban

In an area of one kilometer around the holding in East Brabant village a ban on transporting poultry, eggs, poultry manure and used bedding is issued. Within the area is one other poultry farm whic is being investigated.

Mild strains of bird flu have been detected frequently lately, in other parts of the country. Usually it doesn't spread and remains in the affected farm.
