An outbreak of avian influenza has been identified in a turkey farm in the lower Friuli area. The Region's Prevention Service brought together the crisis unit which ordered the immediate isolation of the site and activated all the safety protocols required in these cases.
«First of all – declared the Councilor for Health Riccardo Riccardi – an epidemiological investigation was carried out to trace the entry flows of the pathogen into the farm and to block the possibility of exit from it. The site is completely isolated and all workers are equipped with protective devices to operate in total safety.'
In any case, the regulatory provisions oblige the killing and safe disposal of all animals on the farm to avoid any possibility of spreading the infection.
