  • Italy - avian flu in Ravenna

RAVENNA. In a poultry and other ornamental poultry farm in Conselice, in the province of Ravenna. Already yesterday, April 4, the killing of the animals found to be infected was ordered to avoid any possible risk of spreading the virus. It all started late in the evening of Friday 1 April, with the reporting of a positive case of highly pathogenic avian flu in the farm where about a thousand animals were present. The Veterinary Service of the Local Health Authority of Ravenna intervened promptly: the scheduled clinical tests and laboratory tests were carried out, and the National Reference Center for Avian Influenza confirmed that it is the avian influenza virus. Meanwhile, the Region is issuing an ordinance which establishes the establishment of protection areas within a radius of 3 kilometers from the farm and surveillance areas within 10 kilometers where the movement of poultry and their products will be limited, in addition to the adoption a series of measures necessary to isolate the phenomenon; in particular, an extraordinary surveillance plan to verify that the infection has not spread to other neighboring farms in the province of Ravenna, with the application of strict measures to ensure health safety.
