Arena Po (Pavia) - An anomalous dying of ducks triggered the report by the same breeder to the Veterinary Service of Ats Pavia. Thus an outbreak of avian influenza defined as 'highly pathogenic' (HPAI) has emerged which has already led to the killing of 4,500 animals and the establishment of a protection zone in four municipalities and a surveillance zone within 10 kilometers, to prevent further spread of the virus.
The issue is exclusively veterinary and does not concern public health, even if the judicial authority has been informed by the Pavia ATS.
