  • Italy Florence: birds found dead in a park from H5N1

CAMPI BISENZIO - After carrying out thorough tests on in the Chico Mendes park, the Azienda Usl Toscana Centro has identified an outbreak of highly pathogenic H1N5 avian influenza. To limit the outbreak, therefore, today, Saturday 15 January, the municipal administration of Campi Bisenzio has issued an ordinance which sanctions the immediate closure of the Chico Mendes park for the next thirty days. 'A necessary measure - reads a note - to safeguard citizenship too, given the possibility of interspecific transmission of the disease'.

As Councilor Riccardo Nucciotti explains, 'this is a necessary choice above all to avoid possible risks for citizens. In the next few days we will coordinate with the public health offices of the Tuscany Center Local Health Authority and with the experts of the Region to identify the animals affected by the avian and limit the danger '.

“Public health - adds the mayor Emiliano Fossi - is our first concern, especially in the delicate moment we are experiencing. Preventing dangerous situations is also fundamental to avoid stressing a citizenry that up to now has been able to respond with great maturity and responsibility to every emergency. Thanks also to the offices and technicians who made the immediate adoption of the measure possible, helping to isolate a potentially dangerous situation in the bud. '
