    A poultry worker tested positive for an avian influenza virus A/H7N7 infection after the development of conjunctivitis; this individual entered in contact with diseases birds belonging to an HPAI affected poultry farm at Mordano, Emilia-Romagna Region.

    The case is a poultry worker, who attended to eggs and manure collection.

    Another suspected case in under investigation: the case concerns a poultry worker attending the same farms.

    Emilia-Romagna Region, in cooperation with the Ministry of Health, has promptly implemented all needed actions in order to put under control the infection, after the discovery of poultry outbreaks.

    The number of individuals with previous occupational contacts or exposure to infection amounts to 110 units, among farms workers and people involved in infected poultry destruction. These people are under surveillance.

    Among them, 61 workers ? in Ferrara and Mordano ? are currently under active surveillance (daily monitoring), since they have been exposed to the infected birds before the virus was detected.

        I dont know if there has been a sequence released from the H7N7 identified as co-circulating with H7N9 in China, but if so, a comparison of the two sequences i.e the italian and chinese viruses to see how closely related they are (or not) would be helpful.
