The Labour Party is calling on the Government to step up Ireland's preparations for a potential bird flu outbreak.
The call follows the detection of the deadly H5N1 strain of the disease this week at a chicken farm in the Czech Republic and among wild birds in Germany.
Labour TD Mary Upton says she wants a special bio-security unit to be established to oversee all the efforts being undertaken to prepare for the possibility of any outbreak in Ireland.
