- On 31 May 2013, LPAI H7 was detected in samples collected in connection with the Danish surveillance programme for avian influenza.
- The farm breeds game birds (mallards and pheasants) for hunting purposes, and was divided into two isolated units.
- LPAI H7N7 was only detected in one of those two units, the unit with mallards.
- The infected unit consisted of 4,906 mallards (offspring and adult mallards), 196 hens and 16 geese.
- On 2 June 2013, the 5,118 birds in that unit were killed and destroyed.
- In total 15,016 hatching eggs were also destroyed.
- The other unit consisted of 17,000 pheasants, 60 ornamental ducks, 25 partridges and 12 ornamental pheasants.
- Those birds were put under official restrictions and were tested three times during a period of 21 days with negative results.
- The Danish Veterinary and Food Administration established a 1 km restriction zone around the farm, which was lifted on 27 June 2013.
- There have been no new outbreaks of notifiable avian influenza in Denmark since the outbreak of low pathogenic avian influenza detected on 31 May 2013.
- The Danish Veterinary and Food Administration has implemented the control measures in accordance with the European Union's Council Directive 2005/94/EC.
- According to the requirements in article 10.4.3 of the OIE Terrestrial Animal Health Code, Denmark declares having regained its status as a notifiable avian influenza free country on 3 September 2013.
