Veterinarians confirmed another outbreak of bird flu in a small farm in Dolní Lhota near Stráž nad Nežárkou in the Jindřichův Hradec region. They therefore spent 40 hens and roosters. This is a subtype of H5N1 infection, which can be potentially dangerous for humans. Petr Vorlíček, a spokesman for the State Veterinary Administration (SVS), informed about this in a press release.

"The breeder reported to the regional veterinary administration a mass death of ten animals in one day. The examination subsequently confirmed that it is an avian influenza of the H5N1 subtype, "said Vorlíček.

He added that according to the result of the pathogenicity determination after the weekend, veterinarians will demarcate the closed areas around the outbreak and order emergency measures in them. Avian influenza is a dangerous viral infection of domestic chickens, turkeys, waterfowl, feathered game, exotic birds and wild birds. Avian influenza viruses are commonly found in wild birds and are mainly transmitted through faeces. Therefore, the infection is most often caused by ingestion of feed or water contaminated with the faeces of infected birds. Highly pathogenic viruses cause high morbidity and high mortality in birds. This causes significant direct and indirect economic losses in poultry farms. "The state veterinary administration calls on all poultry breeders to strictly adhere to the principles of biological safety in their farms," said SVS Central Director Zbyněk Semerád.

Vorlíček said that there is currently a significant increase in the number of new outbreaks of bird flu in Europe, both in wild birds and in farms. In the Czech Republic, veterinarians have already killed about a quarter of a million birds this year, and the disease has significantly affected Perena duck farms. According to the Agrarian Chamber of the Czech Republic, this may mean outages on the duck market. The outages are not affected by the outages.
