After a month, bird flu reappeared in the Czech Republic. In Rohozná in the Jihlava region, 5,000 pieces of poultry must be unloaded
After a month, bird flu was confirmed again in the Czech Republic. In this year's 40th outbreak in Rohozná near Jihlava in the Vysočina region, there are 5,000 pieces of poultry, mainly geese, and veterinarians will kill them. This was announced on Thursday by the spokesman of the State Veterinary Administration Petr Vorlíček. According to him, it is a low pathogenic influenza of the H5N1 subtype, which can be potentially transmissible to humans. A month ago, it was a highly pathogenic type of disease in Trhové Dušníky in the Příbram region.

There are 1400 fattening geese, 2200 breeding geese, 800 fattening geese and 600 broilers in breeding in Rohozná.

According to the current assumption of regional veterinarians, the poultry should be released at the beginning of next week. "If a larger amount of poultry is spent, it must be organized," said Božek Vejmelka, director of the regional veterinary administration. Breeders are prohibited from slaughtering, moving or selling poultry.

According to data on the website, Rohozná is the only large goose farm in the Vysočina region that also deals with goslings. Geese have been bred there since 1974. The breeding used to belong to an agricultural cooperative, in recent years it has functioned as a family farm.

Low pathogenic influenza was last detected in breeding in the Czech Republic in 2010, in wild birds in 2012. In the following cases, as in this year's outbreaks, it was always a highly pathogenic variant.

"The state veterinary administration will order emergency veterinary measures and all poultry in the farm will be killed. A two-kilometer protection zone will be defined around the hearth. Extraordinary veterinary measures will be announced in this zone, which will ban the movement of poultry, and the organization of mass events, such as stock exchanges or bird shows, which pose a high risk of spreading poultry diseases, will be banned, "said spokesman Vorlíček.

Veterinarians warned of another disease a month ago. "The bird flu virus is evidently still present in the wild bird population to some extent, even though the infectious pressure is low compared to the cold winter and spring periods," Petr Majer said earlier on behalf of the State Veterinary Administration. Influenza has not occurred in the Czech Republic in the autumn in recent years. "It is therefore still necessary to observe the rules of hygienic safety in farms, especially to prevent contact of poultry with wild birds," Majer added at the time.

About a quarter of a million birds have already been killed in the Czech Republic this year, and the disease has significantly affected the breeding of Perena ducks. According to the Agrarian Chamber of the Czech Republic, this may mean outages on the duck market. Outages are not yet affected by chicken meat and eggs.

In the Vysočina region, bird flu was detected in Horní Cerekev in the Pelhřimov region this year. On February 20, veterinarians had about 300 poultry slaughtered on the affected farm.
