Horakova, spokeswoman for the firefighters rescue corps of Pardubice Region, said that the culling of 55,000 hens in Kosorin ended at 4:00 CEST today.

Some 17,000 hens in Netreby were liquidated by yesterday morning already.

Some 10,000 healthy turkeys and 55,000 broilers in Loucky and of 3,000 turkeys in Zarecka Lhota, both situated within a three kilometre zone around the infection hotbed, will be culled today.

Litter in all farms concerned will be disinfected after which a 30-day quarantine period will start to run.

Czech vets detected this year's first bird flu case on June 20 at the Tisova farm, east Bohemia.

One week later the H5N1 virus was detected at another poultry farm, situated four kilometres away from Tisova.
