    New Croatian Bird Flu Cases Recorded in Osijek-Baranja Chickens

    June the 8th, 2022 - New Croatian bird flu cases have unfortunately been recorded in Osijek-Baranja County, which is causing concern among domestic producers in an already difficult economic situation.

    As Poslovni Dnevnik writes, in the continental Croatian town of Beli Manastir, bird flu of the H5N1 subtype was confirmed in one yard which was home to twenty chickens. Due to the death of seventeen chickens, the suspicion of bird flu being the culprit was initially reported, and then later confirmed.

    The veterinary inspection carried out by the State Inspectorate placed the chicken farm suffering from the Croatian bird flu outbreak under control, and after the analysis of four chicken corpses, it was confirmed that the chickens were indeed infected by the aforementioned pathogen, and then the remaining three chickens on the farm were unfortunately euthanised as a precautionary measure...

      EPIDEMIOLOGICAL COMMENTS
      On the backyard holding with in total 17 poultry, 14 animals died. Four carcases were sampled and tested and influenza A virus, subtype H5N1, was confirmed on June 2nd 2022. On June 8th 2022, HPAI is confirmed. Establishment is located in city Beli Manastir. Contact with wild birds cannot be excluded. Preventive culling of all poultry on the affected establishment was implemented. All other control and eradication measures on the affected holding were applied. All control and eradication measures are applied. Other activities in restricted zone in accordance with Delegated Regulation 687/2020 are still ongoing. Note: The date of last occurrence for H5N1 is 6th May 2022.
