Avian influenza: stables are also required in Salzburg communities

Since the end of 2022, cases of avian influenza have been detected in several wild birds in Vienna and Lower Austria. In the coming days, according to AGES, the Ministry of Health will make stables compulsory for poultry farms with me as 50 animals. "In Salzburg, this will probably apply in 16 Flachgau communities and the state capital," said state veterinary director Josef Schöchl in a broadcast.

According to State Veterinary Director Josef Schöchl, the following communities in Salzburg are likely to be affected: St. Georgen near Salzburg, Bürmoos, Lamprechtshausen, Dorfbeuern, Nußdorf am Haunsberg, Berndorf near Salzburg, Seeham, Mattsee, Obertrum am See, Göming, Oberndorf near Salzburg, Anthering, Bergheim, Wals-Siezenheim, Anif, Elsbethen and the city of Salzburg...

SAG confirms a positive case of avian influenza in Valparaíso
    By Luis Marquez -
    Jan 5, 2023
Highly pathogenic avian influenza is present between the regions of Arica and Parinacota and Valparaíso only in wild birds with a mortality to date of 3,247 birds killed and buried by the SAG.

The Agricultural and Livestock Service (SAG) informs that after the analyzes in its laboratory, it confirmed the presence of highly pathogenic avian influenza of the H5N1 variant, in a pelican on the coast of Tunquén, Valparaíso region, thus confirming that the virus continues moving to the south of the country in wild birds, without affecting backyard or industrial birds yet.

Within this framework, a coordination meeting was held this afternoon headed by the Undersecretary of Agriculture, José Guajardo, the Presidential Delegate of Valparaíso, Sofía González and the head(s) of the SAG Operations Subdirectorate, Grisel Monje, and where Provincial presidential delegates and representatives of the Health Seremis, ONEMI, Navy and Sernapesca also participated.

Faced with this new positive case, the SAG increases its alert level considering that the disease has already entered a region with more intensive poultry production, for which reason it is reinforcing surveillance work, especially in poultry and industry. In addition to calling on bird owners and farms to maximize biosecurity measures by avoiding contact of their birds with wild birds...

First confirmed bird flu case in Carinthia
A dead wild bird found in the Villach-Land district was checked by the Agency for Health and Food Safety (AGES): The "H5N1" virus was detected. The site was located in the risk area with increased protective measures.

While numerous cases of avian influenza have already been detected in Austria this year, Carinthia has so far been spared. However, the avian influenza virus has now been confirmed in a wild bird that was found dead on March 3, 2023 in the Villach-Land district and immediately forwarded to the AGES laboratory in Lower Austria for testing. The detected subtype H5N1 is highly pathogenic for birds (severely pathogenic), infections with H5N1 in humans have not yet been detected in Europe...
