    Avian influenza H5 subtype - interim report

    1. Avian flu in Slovenia
    In Slovenia, 5. 1. 2017, the first time since 2006 Certified Highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) in
    wild birds. It was subtype H5N8, which occurs in most European countries, both in
    wild birds (especially water) As in poultry.
    The first case of the disease was confirmed in Three dead Grbec swans (Cygnus olor) found in pond
    Pragersko (municipality Slovenian Bistrica).
    After the first case of such bile positive wild birds found at the following locations: Lent in
    Maribor, the Ptuj Lake (municipality of Ptuj in Markovci), in a pond in Rankovce (municipality Silence)
    Sečovlje pans (municipality of Piran), taking place Pobre?je (Municipality Udine), in the river Ledava in gravel pit
    Lakos (municipality of Lendava), Otočec (Novo mesto), in the lake Radehova (Lenart) and around
    Kokorići village in Gaj?evo Lake (municipality of Kri?evci). On the Ptuj Lake was also swans
    also positive Mallard (Anas platyrhynchos).

    2. Actions
    Because of the situation with regard to avian influenza H5N8 in Europe in December of the previous year met State
    Center for Disease Control and adopted a decision on the prohibition of exhibitions and other collections of birds and poultry
    throughout the territory of the Republic of Slovenia.
    After confirmation of H5N8, the National Center for Disease Control adopted the following conclusions:
    a) the areas OU Maribor, Ptuj, Murska Sobota, Celje, Novo mesto and OU Koper poultry and
    captive birds stays indoors, or in a manner to prevent contact with wild
    birds, especially water; for the welfare may be water birds access to water,
    but it needs to be to prevent contact with wild birds, particularly water and feed and
    powered indoor or indoor facilities;
    b) in the rest of the territory of Slovenia it is recommended to implement the measures referred to in point a);
    c) in the territory of the Republic of Slovenia feeding wild waterfowl are not allowed; This reduces the
    undue concentration of birds and AI viruses in some areas, and the possibility of transmission of the virus to
    poultry and captive birds from wild waterfowl via contaminated footwear and clothing.


    3. Control of commitment of the holders of poultry
    Control of commitment of the holders of poultry regarding the implementation of measures in relation to avian influenza
    the official veterinarian regional offices UVHVVR Maribor, Murska Sobota, Ptuj, Novo mesto, Celje
    and Koper.
    Official veterinarians from 6 1 to 20. 2. 2017 conducted 3,565 inspections of holders of poultry. Thus, they are

    National Centre for Disease Control.

    In 14 cases, holders of poultry, despite a warning by the official veterinarian performed the prescribed measures,
    therefore, they have been punished by a fine in the amount of 125,19 euro.

    4. Preliminary results of investigations on avian influenza
    Since the beginning of this year to 20. 2. 2017, the National Veterinary Institute received in the investigation of 413
    wild birds. Of the 43 birds in the part 217 is negative and 153 positive. In most positive
    birds have been identified as subtype H5N8 (147 of swans, one duck and mallard 1 White-fronted goose), three swans is
    subtype H5N5 was detected in ducks, found in the municipality of ?entjur, but the low pathogenic type of avian
    influenza, which is not among the subtypes H5 or H7.
    Avian influenza was also investigated poultry, namely a total of 28 chickens, ducks and geese. results
    investigations were negative.
