  • Netherlands - Hundreds of dead birds washed up - Bird flu suspected - april 20 2020

    April 20, 2020

Many dead birds have recently been washed up along the Wadden coast of Groningen. According to the foundation Het Groninger Landschap, the animals are the victims of bird flu.

"In the autumn we also had a period with bird flu, but then it was not nearly as bad as it is now. It is now really about hundreds of dead specimens", Silvan Puijman of Het Groninger Landschap told RTV Noord.

As manager of the Wadden coast, Puijman sees the dead birds lying in large quantities. "Especially barnacle geese and black-headed gulls. We remove the dead birds from the footpaths, but we leave them in the inaccessible nature reserves. In this way we hope to prevent the spread of the virus."
Volgens de stichting Het Groninger Landschap zijn de dieren slachtoffer?van de vogelgriep.
