  • Italy - new outbreak of avian influenza H5N8 in a fattening turkey farm, Ravenna

    11/12/2017 ? On 11 December, the National Reference Laboratory for Avian Influenza and Newcastle Disease confirmed as positive for Avian Influenza A virus subtype H5N8 a fattening turkey farm in Ravenna province (Emilia-Romagna region). At the time of confirmation, the farm housed about 17,000 60-day old female turkeys. On 10 December, a marked mortality increase was observed and reported to the Veterinary Services. The farm is located in a large wetland characterised by a low density of poultry farms. Further information will be provided as soon as available.
