    [Reuters]
    Reuters•January 13, 2020

BUDAPEST (Reuters) - The H5N8 strain of bird flu has been found at a large turkey farm in northwestern Hungary, the National Food Chain Safety Authority (NEBIH) said on Monday.

Slovakia, Hungary's northern European Union neighbour, reported its first outbreak of the same highly pathogenic strain of the virus in nearly three years in backyard poultry in the western part of the country on Friday.

Hungary's NEBIH said the full turkey stock at the farm, more than 50,000 birds, would have to be culled and other precautionary measures implemented to contain the spread of the infection. It said the farm would receive state compensation...

Second Case of H5N8 Bird Flu Found in Hungary in a Week, Spreading Around Eastern Europe
      By Reuters
      Jan. 15, 2020, 6:25 a.m. ET

BUDAPEST (Reuters) - A second outbreak of bird flu has been found at a large duck farm in eastern Hungary, the National Food Chain Safety Authority (NEBIH) said on Wednesday, two days after the first such case in the country in years.

The flu has spread in recent days in Poland, Romania, Slovakia and Hungary. It is a highly pathogenic strain of the virus that reappeared in Poland in early January.

Hungary’s NEBIH said the full duck stock at the farm, 115,000 birds, was being culled on suspicion of the virus, after the destruction of more than 50,000 turkeys earlier this week to contain the spread of the infection.

It said the virus is probably spreading as wild birds migrate and contaminate waterways used by farm birds...

Bird Flu Hits 226 Farms in Southern Hungary
                MTI-Hungary Today 2020.04.28.

Cases of the H5N8 strain of the bird flu have been confirmed in 226 farms in Hungary’s southern B?cs-Kiskun and Csongr?d counties, leading to the culling of 3.5 million animals, the chief veterinary officer said on Monday.

In areas where farms stood too close to each other, 870,000 poultry had to be culled to thin the stock and stop the virus from spreading, Lajos Bogn?r said. The farmers’ damage totals at several billion forints, he said...
