Suspicion of bird flu at Ammersee
Starnberg - The bird flu, which is rampant in Europe, has possibly reached the district of Starnberg. There is a suspicion: a dead tern.
On Friday a dead tern was found by a stroller about 150 meters south of the in Dampferstegs in Breitbrunn. The tern was brought to the Bavarian State Office for Health and Food Safety (LGL) as part of the wild bird monitoring to investigate avian influenza virus. There was no suspicion of avian influenza at this time. The suspicion emerged only when the LGL in the organs of the tern test avian influenza genome of subtype H5 has been proved. These samples were first passed on to the National Reference Laboratory, Friedrich-Loeffler-Institut, for confirmation, further subtyping and determination of pathogenicity. In the course of Monday the results are expected.
