A low pathogenic avian influenza outbreak detected in Loir-et-Cher

    Updated on 10/08/2019

A low pathogenic avian influenza outbreak has been detected in a game bird farm in Sologne. Animals detected after self-control are healthy carriers. They have no symptoms.
Avian influenza poses no risk to human health.

In order to prevent the spread of the disease, several preventive measures were immediately taken on the farm in question: restriction of movement, confinement of animals, reinforcement of hygiene rules.

By application of the precautionary principle, all poultry gatherings in the context of a competition or exhibition are, for a minimum duration of 30 days, prohibited throughout the department of Loir-et-Cher, particularly that planned in Mor?e. October 12 and 13, 2019.

The participation of Loir-et-Cher birds in gatherings outside the department is also prohibited.

State services are monitoring this situation very closely, which will be the subject of a subsequent communication if it changes.

Elimination of the outbreak of low pathogenic avian influenza detected in Loir-et-Cher

      Updated on 11/10/2019

A low pathogenic avian influenza outbreak has been detected in a game bird farm in Sologne. In order to eradicate the virus, the slaughter of all the mallard ducks present on the farm was carried out this Friday, October 11th.

On October 3, a low pathogenic avian influenza outbreak was detected in a game bird farm in Sologne. This virus infects only wild and domestic birds. It is safe for humans.

This breeding had already been the subject of a partial elimination of animals in 2018, following positive serological results in low pathogenic avian influenza. The resurgence in 2019 demonstrates that these measures have not been sufficient to prevent the reoccurrence of the disease.

Also, in order to eradicate the virus, a slaughter of all the mallard ducks present on the farm was decided by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food. The slaughter operations were held this Friday, October 11 under the control of officers of the departmental directorate of social cohesion and protection of populations ( DDCSPP ), with the support of the police to ensure the protection of the site.

The aviaries will now be subject, as soon as possible, to an in-depth cleaning and disinfection operation . After 8 days of crawl space , a second similar cleaning and disinfection operation will be performed, followed by a 21-day crawl space . At the end of this period, the breeding will be repopulated.

These thorough cleaning and disinfection operations are carried out by a specialist company and under the control of the service DDCSPP .

A psychological support was offered to the breeder to support him during this particularly delicate period.

No specific protection measures have been put in place around the home due to the lack of immediate rearing (less than 1 km). Hunting can take place normally on the department.
