This breeding had already been the subject of a partial elimination of animals in 2018, following positive serological results in low pathogenic avian influenza. The resurgence in 2019 demonstrates that these measures have not been sufficient to prevent the reoccurrence of the disease.

Also, in order to eradicate the virus, a slaughter of all the mallard ducks present on the farm was decided by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food. The slaughter operations were held this Friday, October 11 under the control of officers of the departmental directorate of social cohesion and protection of populations ( DDCSPP ), with the support of the police to ensure the protection of the site.

The aviaries will now be subject, as soon as possible, to an in-depth cleaning and disinfection operation . After 8 days of crawl space , a second similar cleaning and disinfection operation will be performed, followed by a 21-day crawl space . At the end of this period, the breeding will be repopulated.

These thorough cleaning and disinfection operations are carried out by a specialist company and under the control of the service DDCSPP .

A psychological support was offered to the breeder to support him during this particularly delicate period.

No specific protection measures have been put in place around the home due to the lack of immediate rearing (less than 1 km). Hunting can take place normally on the department.
