Detection of a case of low pathogenic avian influenza

    Updated on 09/03/2018

A virus with a low pathogenicity of avian influenza, type H5N3, was detected in a duck farm in Finist?re, with no associated clinical signs.

The highlighting was made within the framework of the self-checking plan set up by the Directorate General for Food (Ministry of Agriculture and Food).

The pathogen, which infects wild birds and domestic birds, and whose circulation is known, is without threat to humans and is not exceptional.

Nevertheless, in order to prevent the spread of this virus and prevent its possible mutation, the slaughter of the 7,450 ducks of the breeding is programmed as soon as possible, and a measure of confinement of the poultry with restriction of their movements is taken temporarily within 1 km of the farm.

State services in Finist?re are mobilized to ensure health security and support the farmer until the resumption of his activity.

The detection of this outbreak of avian influenza virus recalls the importance of measures to prevent contamination between farms, including the strict application of biosecurity measures prescribed by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food .
