      Official press release -

The Rosselkhoznadzor did not exclude that the fact of ASF was hidden in the enterprise near Kaliningrad

      August 9, 2018 - TASS
Rosselkhoznadzor did not exclude the concealment of the fact of animal disease by the African swine fever (ASF) on the part of the management of the pig complex, which is part of the Baltic Pork Invest in the Kaliningrad Region. This was reported on Tuesday on the website of the Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance.
"The Rosselkhoznadzor informed Norgaard (CEO of OOO Managing Company RBPI Group, Thomas Norgaard - TASS comment) that the service does not exclude the fact of concealing the disease from the management of the enterprise. This conclusion can be made on the basis of the detection in some regions of the country of the contaminated virus of ASF products of this company ", the report says.
According to the Rosselkhoznadzor, the disease at the pig complex "RBP Group" near Kaliningrad was revealed on July 10. By July 18, due to infection, more than 21,000 of the 111,200 animals kept on it fell. Quarantine is imposed on the complex, all livestock is subject to destruction.
Norgaard expressed "extreme concern over the situation" given that the company owns farms in the Kaliningrad and Nizhny Novgorod regions, and asked the leadership of the Rosselkhoznadzor to provide recommendations for the elimination of the ASF outbreak in the Kaliningrad enterprise. The head of the Rosselkhoznadzor, Sergei Dankvert, at a meeting with Nogaard noted that "now the main thing is to promptly carry out measures to eliminate the outbreak and not allow the virus to penetrate other enterprises of the company," the website of the agency said. It is noted that the agency is ready to "send experts to the enterprise to conduct explanatory work in terms of reducing the existing risks of introducing a virus."
Earlier it was reported that the ASF virus was detected in the blood of the pigs contained at Pravdinsky Pig Production, part of the group of companies RBPI Group. Later, there was a report on the introduction of quarantine for ASF also at the Otkormochnoe plant in Kaliningrad. In total, according to the regional Ministry of Agriculture, by the middle of July, nine foci of ASF were registered in the region.
ASF causes a virus that is highly resistant to the environment and can spread to large areas. Factors of its transmission are live and fallen infected animals, slaughter products of infected pigs, manure, feed, inventory, transport, insects and rodents. ASF does not pose a threat to humans, but is deadly to animals. Vaccines from ASF do not exist yet, only the destruction of pigs is possible to prevent the spread of infection.
