An experimental treatment, ZMab, is available in Spain for use in her case, a health source said. However, it was not clear whether she was now being given the drug. She was given antibodies from previously infected patients earlier this week.

The ZMab combination drug, made by Canada-based company Defyrus Inc., is one of the agents used to make ZMapp, another treatment, which was developed by MappBiopharmaceutical Inc. ZMapp has been used on some Ebola sufferers, a number of whom survived, but available supplies are exhausted.
    First I heard of ZMab.

Several hundred protesters calling for government officials to step down gathered in central Madrid on Saturday evening, carrying a banner that read "We are all Teresa". Earlier in the day, animal rights campaigners demonstrated in several cities because the Madrid government had Romero's pet dog, Excalibur, put down this week, fearing it could spread the disease.
They should step down. They demoralized, horrified and frightened people all over the world. Spain deserves better.

the nursing assistant was able to speak with her husband, Javier Lim?n, who has not informed him that his dog has died Excalibur. He also added that Teresa has "gaps" and does not remember "many things" and that doctors "have hope" and there are "optimistic she can beat the disease."

Excellent news, FrenchieGirl! I heard on the news today that Nurse Romero did not know about Excalibur's execution yet. Her husband is wise to get counsel on this. I think feeling needed to help other patient's will help her will to live.

Rodr?guez apologized to the couple yesterday in a public statement. "I give my most sincere apologies to Teresa," Rodr?guez stated, "an accredited professional with more than 15 years of experience, and a more committed woman than anyone. She, like many other excellent professionals, volunteered to treat the missionaries suffering from Ebola and deserves all my respect."

The El Mundo report notes that the couple have refused to accept the apology...
If only there were just cruel words to apologize for in this case.

Spain Ebola Patient Improving, 1 to Be Tested

            MADRID ? Oct 16, 2014, 7:42 AM ET

A Spanish Health Ministry spokesman says the condition of a nursing assistant with Ebola appears to be improving but a person who came into contact with her before she was hospitalized Oct. 6 has a fever and will be hospitalized and tested for the virus.

Spokesman Fernando Simon says nursing assistant Teresa Romero is in stable condition at Madrid's Carlos III hospital and the level of Ebola virus in her body is declining.

Simon said Thursday the person to be tested reported having a fever above 37.7 degrees Celsius (99.9 degrees Fahrenheit) ? the level Spanish authorities have set for at-risk people to be tested.

He did not identify the person but said it is not a health care worker. The result is expected Thursday night.
