'Probable' Ebola case probed at Paris hospital
    Published: 10 Oct 2014 11:21 GMT+02:00

Authorities believe it's "probable" a woman being treated at a Paris hospital is infected with the Ebola virus, which they suspect she contracted on a trip to Africa. Tests are being carried out on Friday to confirm or deny doctors' suspicions.

Just a day after fears a case of Ebola had been detected near Paris proved to be a false alarm, doctors said on Friday they believe a woman being treated at Bichat hospital in the capital has contracted the virus, according to Europe 1 radio.

The patient has been under observation because doctors considered her to be potentially infected, but they won't know for sure until later on Friday when they receive the results of medical tests.

She has been placed in an sterilized isolation room, until the test results are sent back from the Institute Pasteur de Lyon. It could be until late afternoon before the results are known.

The woman, who hasn't been identified, had been in Africa recently, where medics believe she may have contracted the disease.
