    Patient in Manchester tested for Ebola A patient at North Manchester General Hospital is being tested for Ebola. Public Health England said testing was being done as a precaution. It said in a statement it had received a sample for Ebola testing relating to a patient presently at North Manchester General Hospital with a history of travel to West Africa. The statement, issued last night, said: "Ebola is considered unlikely but testing is being done as a precaution, as is our usual practice in these circumstances. We are confident that all appropriate actions are being taken to protect the public's health.     Media Interest at North Manchester General Hospital



    13 January 2015 Our Infectious Diseases Unit at North Manchester General Hospital is a specialist unit that has been designated as a primary receiving centre for any suspected Ebola patients in Greater Manchester.
    The Trust has robust plans in place which have been tested to deal with any suspected or positive cases.
    Following media interest regarding a patient who has been cared for by our staff at the Infectious Diseases Unit at North Manchester General Hospital, Public Health England (PHE) has this afternoon confirmed that test results for Ebola have come back negative.

    The PHE statement is shared below.

    A PHE spokesperson said:

    ?Public Health England can confirm it has undertaken precautionary tests relating to a patient presently at North Manchester General Hospital, who has a history of travel to West Africa.

    "Ebola was considered unlikely but testing was being done as a precaution, and was negative.?
