Russia's Official Daily COVID Deaths Again Near Record High
    November 21, 2021 09:27 GMT
    By RFE/RL's Russian Service

Russia reported 1,252 COVID-19 fatalities on November 21, the fourth consecutive day of near-record fatalities over the entire pandemic.

The country reported a record 1,254 deaths on both November 19 and 20 and 1,251 on November 18.

Russia has been widely criticized for possibly manipulating its coronavirus statistics and understating the consequences of the pandemic. Russia's statistics include cases in the Ukrainian region of Crimea, which Moscow annexed in 2014.

Russia also reported 36,970 new infections on November 21...

    Jim Heintz
    The Associated Press
    Published Saturday, October 30, 2021 7:53AM EDT

MOSCOW -- Russia on Saturday reported a record number of new coronavirus infections as authorities hope to stem the rising contagion by keeping most people off work for the next week.

The government's coronavirus task force reported 40,251 new infections in 24 hours, exceeding the previous record 40,096 reported on Thursday. It said 1,160 people died of the virus over the past day, three fewer than the record set a day earlier.

That brought Russia's official COVID-19 death count to 237,380, by far the largest in Europe. More than 8.47 million infections have been recorded in the country of 146 million during the pandemic...

Russia Sets New Daily Covid Death Record
    Updated: 2 hours ago
According to government figures, 1,123 people have died from Covid-19 over the last 24 hours. Sofia Sandurskaya / Moskva News Agency

Russia confirmed a new record number of coronavirus deaths for a second consecutive day Wednesday as the country with Europe’s highest official Covid-19 death toll counts down the days until nationwide restrictions come into force.

According to government figures, 1,123 people have died from Covid-19 over the last 24 hours.

Wednesday's increase brings the official death toll to 233,898 — Europe’s highest — though authorities are accused of drastically downplaying that figure. A Moscow Times analysis of excess deaths published by the federal statistics agency Rosstat puts Russia's total excess fatality count since the start of the pandemic at 660,000...

Russia records highest daily new Covid-19 case number
Despite the mounting toll, the Kremlin has ruled out a new nationwide lockdown like the one early on in the pandemic that badly hurt the economy.
    Oct. 17, 2021, 6:53 AM EDT
    By The Associated Press

MOSCOW — Russia is reporting its largest daily number of new coronavirus infections, more than 70 percent up on the number a month ago as the country faces a sustained rise in cases.

The national coronavirus task force on Sunday said 34,303 new infections were recorded in the previous day, compared with the 20,174 reported Sept. 19.

The death toll of 999 was barely lower than the record 1,002 deaths reported on Saturday.

Russian authorities have tried to speed up the pace of vaccinations with lotteries, bonuses and other incentives, but widespread vaccine skepticism and conflicting signals from officials stymied the efforts. The government said this week that about 43 million Russians, or some 29 percent of the country’s nearly 146 million people, are fully vaccinated.

Despite the mounting toll, the Kremlin has ruled out a new nationwide lockdown like the one early on in the pandemic that badly hurt the economy, eroding President Vladimir Putin’s popularity. Instead, it has delegated the power to enforce coronavirus restrictions to regional authorities.

Some of Russia’s 85 regions have restricted attendance at large public events and limited access to theaters, restaurants and other venues. However, daily life is going on largely as normal in Moscow, St. Petersburg and many other Russian cities...

Have to say that the ongoing rise in daily Covid deaths in Russia is disquieting.
I assume that the regime is not deliberately boosting the reported toll numbers, but afaik, there is no other country with a similar sustained rise in mortality.
Is there a new variant in Russia possibly?

Covid-19: Russia’s infections reach the highest level so far this year
    By: Associated Press | October 07, 2021 4:44 PM
Despite surging infections, the Kremlin has shrugged off the idea of imposing a new nationwide lockdown, delegating the power to tighten restrictions to regional authorities.

Russia’s daily coronavirus infections soared Thursday to their highest level so far this year as authorities have struggled to control a surge in new cases amid a slow pace in vaccinations and few restrictions in place.

The daily coronavirus death toll topped 900 for a second straight day, with 924 new deaths reported Thursday — a day after reaching a record 929.

Russia already has Europe’s highest death toll in the pandemic — topping 213,000 — and a conservative way of calculating the number suggests the actual number could be even higher.

On Thursday, the government’s coronavirus task force reported 27,550 new confirmed cases, a nearly 10% rise from the previous day. New infections in Moscow soared by nearly 50% to 5,404 cases...

COVID-19 deaths in Russia hit record for third time this month
    Daria Litvinova
    The Associated Press
Published Tuesday, October 5, 2021 7:38AM EDT Last Updated Tuesday, October 5, 2021 10:31AM EDT

MOSCOW -- Coronavirus deaths in Russia hit a record for the third time this month on Tuesday, and daily new infections once again exceeded 25,000 -- a surge that comes as vaccination rates in the country remain stagnantly low and the government shuns imposing tough restrictions to stem the spread.

Russia's state coronavirus task force reported 25,110 new confirmed cases on Tuesday and 895 new deaths -- the country's highest daily death toll in the pandemic. The previous record, of 890 deaths, was registered on Sunday, and the one before that, of 887 deaths, occurred on Friday.

The Kremlin has said that the situation elicits concern, but still it is not considering a countrywide lockdown or any other nationwide measures...

Correction, the toll in Russia is rising gradually, now closer to 900/day rather than 800. For a virus that is 'under control', it is inexplicably deadly.
