  • Indonesia - Zika Virus Confirmed For The First Time - 1977 / 78

    Monday, 11/16/2015

    Jakarta,
Indonesia for the first time reported a virus infection zika (ZIKV). The good news, a virus transmitted by mosquitoes is not fierce dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF). "The virus zika is a family of viruses that cause dengue and chikungunya, the flavivirus," said Prof Amin Subandrio, Head of the Institute of bimolecular Eijkman who reported this finding, when contacted DetikHealth, Monday (11/16/2015).

According to Prof. Amin, this is the first time in Indonesia, zika virus infection confirmed by molecular and virology.Previously, new zika virus infections detected by serological antibody findings. Antibodies showed once infection. These findings will be reported also in the event JITMM (Joint International Tropical Medicine Meeting) held at Mahidol University, Thailand, 2-4 December 2015. These findings affirm the need for surveillance against viral infections zika. "That is, this confirms that the virus infection zika does exist in Indonesia," explains Prof. Amin. Prof Amin said the findings do not need to make people anxious. Although still allied with the dengue virus, a viral infection of dengue infection zika not fierce. "Most simply ordinary fevers, will disappear by itself," concluded Prof. Amin. Read also: 5 Ways Not Normal To Avoid Mosquito Bites(up / mrs)

Zika virus, a cause of fever in Central Java, Indonesia.

        Abstract

In 1977 and 1978 selected in-patients at the Tegalyoso Hospital, Klaten, Indonesia who had recent onsets of acute fever were serologically studied for evidence for alphavirus and flavivirus infections. A brief clinical history was taken and a check list of signs and symptoms was completed on admission.

Acute and convalescent phase sera from 30 patients who showed evidence that a flavivirus had caused their illnesses were tested for neutralizing antibodies to several flaviviruses which occur in South-east Asia. Paired sera fromseven patients demonstrated a fourfold rise in antibody titre from acute to convalescent phase.

The most common clinical manifestations observed in this series of patients included high fever, malaise, stomach ache, dizziness and anorexia. None of the seven patients had headache or rash despite the fact that headache and rash had been associated with two of the three previously studied. The onsets of illness clustered toward the end of the rainy season when populations of Aedes aegypti, a probable vector in Malaysia, were most abundant.

I understand that a minimum level of virus in the blood is needed, before a mosquito can transfer the virus to another human host? So if a virus is endemic, many have antibodies, not much circulation , Zika is no big deal anymore? Like we see in Indonesia?
