    18 new confirmed cases of West Nile virus in Romania.

    Some 18 cases of infection with West Nile virus have been confirmed in the period September 1 to 9 in Romania, said Monday Agerpres, representatives of the National Centre for Surveillance and Control of Communicable Diseases within the National Institute for Public Health.

    According to the site INSP, during the period 1 May to 9 September, 58 people were diagnosed with West Nile virus deaths being 5.

    Dintre persoanele decedate ?n cele patru luni, două au fost din Ialomiţa şi c?te una din Iaşi, Mureş şi Bucureşti. Among those killed in four months, two were in Ialomita and one in Iasi, Mures and Bucharest.

    By age groups, the situation is this: most people infected with this virus - 20 - are in the age group 70-79 years, 9 persons 80 years and over, 9 people aged 60-69 years, 6 persons between 50-59 years, 5 people between 40-49 years, 4 people between 30-39 years, 4 people between 20-29 years and a person under the age of 19 years.

    Regarding distribution by counties, they were recorded: in Bucharest - 12 cases, Bacau - 3 Braila - 12 Dolj - 3 Galaţi - 4 Giurgiu - 1 Ilfov - 5 Ialomita - 5 Iasi - 4 Mehedinti - 1 Mures - 1 Olt - 2 Prahova - 2 Tulcea - 1 Teleorman - 1 Valcea - 1.


    Un număr de 18 cazuri de infecţie cu virus West Nile au fost confirmate ?n perioada 1 - 9 septembrie ?n Rom?nia, au precizat, luni, pentru Agerpres, reprezentanţi ai Centrului Naţional de Supraveghere şi Control al Bolilor Transmisibile din cadrul Institutului Naţional de Sănătate Publică.?

    Romania sees 80 cases of West Nile virus infection and 8 deaths in 5 months

    A total of 80 people were infected with the West Nile virus in Romania between May 1 and September 29 this year, and eight of them died, according to data published on the National Public Health Institute’s website.

    The eight people who died after being infected with the West Nile virus were from Bucharest and Braila, Ialomita, Iasi, Mures, and Teleorman counties, reports local Agerpres. One of the fatal cases was registered in early August.


    A total of 80 people were infected with the West Nile virus between May 1 and September 29 this year, and eight of them died.
