    Seven West Nile virus infections in 2015 in Austria

    Seven cases of West Nile Virus infections have been registered so far this year in Austria. The now wrote the expert Stephan Aberle and Franz X. Heinz in the "Virus Epidemiological Information". The probable site of infection was in all these cases in Northeast Austria, where the virus has been detected in mosquitoes and birds.

    West Nile fever in Austria and Romania

    D?SSELDORF. Until the end of September, six cases of West Nile fever (WNF) were registered in Austria, reports the CRM Centre for Travel Medicine. Thereafter, at least two people have been infected in Vienna. The infections occurred since 2009 in the country isolated on.

    Reports of sporadic WNF cases there is also from Romania. So (region Wallachia) was reported in August, the first neuro-invasive disease WNF of the year in Europe from the Dolj county. By early October, there were 17 infections.

    The mosquito-borne, flu-like illness may be more severe especially in immunocompromised people. Travellers are advised to use mosquito repellent.
