    Cases of TB are rare and treatable, said health department officials.

    BROOKLINE

    A tuberculosis case has been identified at Tiny World Child Care in Washington Square in Brookline, the state Department of Public Health said in an emailed statement, but it did not specify whether it was found in a child or an adult.

    ?A case of tuberculosis has been identified in Brookline at Tiny World Child Care. DPH is monitoring the situation, and working closely with local officials and the Tiny World Child Care community. Tuberculosis is preventable and treatable, and transmission of TB in these cases is very uncommon,? said Interim Director of Communications for the Massachusetts Department of Health Scott Zoback in the emailed statement.

    A call to the Brookline Department of Health was routed to the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH), which issued the statement...

    ...In 2015, 192 cases of active TB were reported and verified by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, according to data released in March. Of those, seven cases were diagnosed in children younger than 15 years old, according to state data released in March.
    The Massachusetts case rate is similar to the United States case rate as a whole (3.0 per 100,000 residents). The 2015 Massachusetts case count was slightly lower from the number of cases observed in 2014, according to the report...
