    Epidemiological comments As a part of surveillance carried out for Rift Valley fever in the whole country under the Food and Agriculture Organization project No.OSRO.LIB 801.CHA. Around 150 samples from sheep and goat farms were collected by risk-based surveillance teams in Alkufra. Two samples from the Aljouf area gave a positive result.

    Epidemiological comments Abortions were recorded in all stages of gestation. The signs were respiratory signs, diarrhoea and death in few cases of new-born lambs. A total of 212 blood samples collected from new and old outbreak farms by the Rapid Response Team.

      Affected population The rapid response team went to the infected area for further epidemiological investigation and collected blood samples from the surrounding farms. They sprayed insecticide on the swamps and the infected farms.

        Epidemiological comments To complete the project (SORO.LIB 801.CHA) about Rift Valley fever in Libya, sample collection (from sheep and goats) from the Southern area was completed by the surveillance team. The total number of samples is 426. The following signs were reported by the surveillance team: abortion in all stages of gestation, new-born deaths after respiratory manifestation and diarrhoea in some cases. The signs appeared in goats that were involved in illegal movement.
