    Female polio worker allegedly raped, mugged in Sindh’s Jacobabad

    KARACHI – A female polio worker was allegedly rapped and looted in Jacobabad city of Sindh, it emerged on Saturday.

    The incident took place in Allah Buksh Jakharni village where a man held the polio worker hostage at gun point and allegedly looted her before sexually assaulting her.

    Jacobabad Deputy Commissioner Zahoor Marri and SSP Sumair Noor Channa told media that the price suspect had been arrested along with the weapon used in the incident.

    They said the DNA sample of the victim has been sent to Jamshoro for further investigation...

      Another polio case reported in Kohat

      KOHAT (Dunya News) - A ten-month-old child was diagnosed with polio disease in Kohat, Dunya News reported here on Thursday.

      This is the second polio case in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the current year and 23rd in the country.

      According to NCOC laboratory report, the sample of the patient was tested in lab and found positive for poliovirus.​..

        KARACHI: The total number of poliovirus cases recorded in Pakistan this year climbed to 24 on Saturday after a two-and-a-half-year-old child from Sindh's Hyderabad was diagnosed with the virus.

        According to sources at the National Emergency Operations Centre, the child, hailing from Hyderabad's Neronkot area, was left paralysed by the virus, marking the city's second polio case,.

        The latest case in Hyderabad takes the province's total number of children affected by the current poliovirus outbreak to five.

        The latest polio case comes a day after authorities had confirmed that a 10-month-old baby girl in district Kohat of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was diagnosed with the virus, marking the northwestern province's second case this year.

        The infant from Tehsil Darra Adamkhel had contracted the wild poliovirus type 1 (WPV1) that left her paralysed on September 12...

          The latest cases, one in the Karachi East district and the other in Sujawal district, underscored the persistent threat posed by the poliovirus in Pakistan. The National Emergency Operations Center for Polio Eradication confirmed that the virus was found in environmental samples in both areas, indicating active circulation within communities.​..

            ​ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s fight against polio has encountered fresh setbacks with the confirmation of two new cases of wild poliovirus type 1 (WPV1) in children from the districts of Zhob and Tank.

            Health officials now report a total of 28 cases in 2024, raising concerns over the country’s expanding public health challenge. The latest victims are a young girl from Zhob, Balochistan, and a boy from Tank in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), according to the Regional Reference Laboratory at the National Institute of Health.

            This is the second polio case in Zhob this year and the first in Tank. Previous tests of sewage samples from both districts had already confirmed the presence of the virus, signifying ongoing transmission risks to children.​..

              ISLAMABAD: A report by the Institute for Disease Modeling (IMD) has raised alarms about escalating wild poliovirus cases in Pakistan, fearing that the number could hit 55 to 65 by the end of 2024.

              This growing threat is compounded by missed vaccinations, refusals and ongoing issues within the national polio eradication programme, according to the report.

              Pakistan has so far recorded 28 wild poliovirus cases in 2024, with Balochistan leading the count at 16 cases, followed by Sindh with seven, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with three and one each in Punjab and Islamabad.

              The virus continues to circulate in environmental samples from multiple regions, signalling persistent transmission risks.

              Experts point to immunity gaps as a critical obstacle to eradication efforts. Thousands of children have been missed in immunisation drives, while refusals have surged, particularly in areas like Peshawar and parts of Karachi.​..

                  Pakistan has reported another polio case in 2024, bringing the total to 33 this year after a child from Quetta was diagnosed with the virus.

                  The affected child showed symptoms of polio on August 22. Quetta has seen three polio cases, with 37 sewerage samples testing positive for the virus.

                  Additionally, the Quetta block has recorded 11 polio cases and 65 positive sewerage samples.

                  Balochistan remains the most affected province, with 17 cases reported. Sindh has recorded 10 cases, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa four, and one case each from Islamabad and Punjab.

                  On September 5, the National Institute of Health (NIH) presented detailed statistics on polio cases in Pakistan before the National Assembly.

                  The NIH reported a total of 45 polio cases across Pakistan over the past four years. In 2021, only one case was reported, while the number surged to 20 in 2022.

                  During 2023, eight new cases were recorded, followed by 16 cases in 2024, as confirmed by the Ministry of Health.​..

                      Four new cases of polio have been reported in Balochistan and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, bringing the total number of cases in Pakistan this year to 37.

                      Health authorities told a local news channel that a 30-month-old girl from Lakki Marwat, an 18-month-old girl from Pishin, a 9-month-old boy from Chaman, and a 5-year-old boy from Noshki have all been diagnosed with the disease.

                      According to officials, the number of polio cases in Balochistan now stands at 20, while Sindh has reported 10 cases. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has seen five cases, and Punjab and Islamabad have each confirmed one case.

                      With these new cases, health officials remain concerned about the ongoing spread of the virus despite vaccination efforts across the country.​..

                        Pakistan has reported 39 polio cases this year, with two fresh cases of the crippling disease being detected in the Sindh province, authorities said on Sunday.

                        The latest cases were confirmed on Saturday in the Sanghar and Mirpurkhas districts of the province, the Dawn newspaper reported.

                        ​These come after four cases were reported a day earlier, jolting the country's efforts to eradicate the poliovirus.

                        According to the Regional Reference Laboratory for Polio Eradication in Islamabad, the newest victims are a girl and a boy.

                        These are the first polio cases from Mirpurkhas and Sanghar this year, the report quoted an official as saying. The prevalence of the virus had already been confirmed in the two neighbouring districts following multiple environmental samples testing positive for WPV1 since April, the official added.

                        In ten months of the year, Pakistan has reported 39 cases of poliovirus, of which 20 were reported from Balochistan, 12 from Sindh, five from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and one each from Punjab and Islamabad.​..

                          Pakistan reports 40th polio case of 2024

                          ISLAMABAD: Pakistan reported another polio case as a child from Kohat district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has been confirmed to be affected with the virus, ARY News reported citing National Institutes of Health (NIH) sources.

                          A two-and-a-half-year-old child belonged to Dara Adamkhel has been affected with Type-I of the poliovirus, the NIH sources said.

                          This is Kohat’s second instance of polio this year; earlier this month, another district child was found to have contracted the virus.

                          Four sewage samples taken from Kohat have been found to contain poliovirus.​..

                            ISLAMABAD: In continuation of the alarming spread of poliovirus, the country's total tally for the ongoing year has risen to 41 after wild poliovirus type 1 (WPV1) was detected in a 42-month-old girl from Loralai District, Balochistan, The News reported on Saturday.

                            Polio Eradication Initiative (PEI) has said that the child experienced the onset of paralysis on October 8 and laboratory tests, on Friday, confirmed that she had contracted WPV1.

                            The development comes as the government, in its bid to tackle the virus's spread, is set to kick off a nationwide anti-polio vaccine campaign on October 28...

                                ISLAMABAD - The Regional Reference Laboratory for Polio Eradication at the National Institute of Health (NIH) has confirmed the detection of the 42nd Wild Poliovirus Type-1 (WPV1) case in Pakistan.

                                The lab confirmed detection of Type-1 Wild Poliovirus in a child from Nowshera District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

                                This is the first polio case from Nowshera and the 42nd case from Pakistan at large this year. So far, 21 cases have been reported from Balochistan, 12 from Sindh, seven from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and one each from Punjab and Islamabad.​..
