    ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 11th Jan, 2019 ) :Another child falls prey to the parental refusal in Bajour Agency as a two and a half year old child was just diagnosed with poliomyelitis on Friday.

    According to an official of Polio Emergency Operation Centre, child's father allowed polio drops to daughters but kept his son away from polio immunization teams during anti-polio drives. He said that this was the 10th polio case of year 2018.

    He said that six polio cases were reported from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during year 2018 included one from Charssada, one from Lakki Marwat, three from Bajour and one from Khyber.

    He said that the centre had also confirmed on Thursday polio case reported from Lakki Marwat district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) in 16 months child Anam.

    He said that samples of child's blood were collected in December 2018, therefore the case belongs to last year tally...

    PESHAWAR: The second polio case in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in 2019 was reported from Bajaur tribal district a day after one was detected in Lakki Marwat. The National Institute of Health isolated the wild polio virus from a stool sample of 30-month child belonging to Sheikhan village in Salarzai tehsil in Bajaur.

    The stool sample of the child was collected on December 27 last year to check the presence of polio virus. The laboratory isolated wild polio virus from stools and confirmed it to be a case of polio. It was notified by the National Emergency Operations Centre in Islamabad on Friday.

    The total count of polio cases in the newly merged tribal districts during 2018 reached four. It was the sixth case in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP). The family of the child had moved from Balochistan to Bajaur around a month before the date of onset (when the child got paralyzed because of polio virus).

    Earlier, the first polio case of 2019 was reported from Lakki Marwat, the native district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Health Minister Dr Hisham Inamullah Khan. According to sources in the KP Health Department, the child named Anam was a 16-month old girl. She is the resident of Bhana Manji Wala village of Lakki Marwat. It is unclear if the child was given anti-polio vaccine...

      Poliovirus detected from sewage in 8 cities: EOC

      The extensive environmental surveillance established by the Pakistan Polio Eradication programme has detected the polio virus from sewage of eight populous cities during last month.

      According to results shared by the National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC), the presence of polio virus was confirmed in sewage samples collected from Karachi, Peshawar, Bannu, Lahore, Rawalpindi, Killa Abdullah, Pishin and Quetta during December 2018.

      Considering the associated risks, the country programme has urged parents to ensure immunization of all children under the age of five years during the upcoming polio campaign scheduled to start from 21st January...

        ISLAMABAD: The first polio case of the year 2019 has been reported from Bajour district on Saturday, according to Focal Person to Prime Minister Imran Khan on Polio Eradication Babar Atta.

        ?Sad News: The ongoing active virus circulation in Bajour Tribal District has paralysed yet another child as Pakistan reports its 1st polio case of 2019 from Khar. The child is 11 months old. Bajour has now reported 6 polio cases alone during the last 3 months,? he tweeted.

          ISLAMABAD: The prime minister?s focal person for polio eradication Babar Bin Atta on Thursday confirmed that second polio case of the year-2019 surfaced in Bannu, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

          Babar Bin Atta said that a two-year-old boy was diagnosed with the crippling virus in Bannu. He said that Bannu is one of the areas, where parents usually refused to have polio drops administered to their children...

            Health DG confirms presence of poliovirus in Faisalabad

            LAHORE: Health Director General (DG) Dr Munir Ahmed on Friday confirmed the presence of poliovirus in Faisalabad.

            As per details, the samples collected from Achkera Pumping Station turned out to be positive for poliovirus.

            The crippling virus has been reported in Lahore and Rawalpindi whereas it was earlier detected in Faisalabad back in 2016.

            ?An anti-polio drive will kick-off from February 18 in Faisalabad, Lahore and Rawalpindi to eradicate the crippling virus from the areas,? Dr Munir said...

                  Another polio worker gunned down in Mohmand

                  Wajid Khan, a union council polio worker, was gunned down on Monday in Mohmand tribal district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P).

                  According to initial details, the person who opened fire at the polio worker following an argument early morning was identified as Zubair Khan.

                  A district administration official Mohmand and local sources also confirmed the incident that happened in Auto Khel area of Haleemzai tehsil.

                        Cop killed, polio workers injured in attacks
                        Bannu/LAHORE - A policeman guarding polio workers was shot dead in Bannu while two polio workers were wounded in a knife attack in Lahore on Tuesday.

                        According to Bannu police, armed assailants opened fire and shot dead Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Imran who had been deputed to guard a polio team that was engaged in administering anti-polio drops to children during the ongoing three-day campaign in city?s Bacha Khan Chowk.

                        After committing the crime, the attackers managed to escape before police and personnel of other law enforcement agencies reached the spot. They later cordoned off the area to arrest the culprits.

                        In Lahore, two polio workers were wounded in a knife attack in Shadbagh area.

                        Rescuers said both the victims were rushed to Mayo Hospital with stab wounds on their arms and hands. A police spokesman said the suspect was arrested soon after the incident...

                          CHAMAN/PESHAWAR: Polio eradication teams were attacked in Sindh and Balochistan on Thursday while a female polio worker was shot and killed in Chaman.

                          According to police, two men on a motorcycle attacked a polio team in Chaman’s Sultanzai area, which resulted in Nasreen, a 35-year-old polio worker being killed. Another polio worker, 24-year-old Rashida was seriously wounded in the attack. She was shifted to a hospital in Quetta for treatment.

                          Polio campaign was temporary suspended in Sultanzai while police have launched a search operation in the area...

                          5,600 polio refusal cases reported in Rawalpindi

                          RAWALPINDI: Around 5,600 parents have reportedly refused polio vaccination for their children during the ongoing five-day anti-polio drive which started in the district on April 22.

                          Punjab Anti-Polio Emergency Centre Coordinator Salman Ghani told APP that in the wake of the Peshawar incident, parents of around 13,000 children refused to administer polio drops to their children in Punjab and the number of refusal cases was highest in Rawalpindi as 5,600 parents have expressed reservations about the vaccine, in Attock the number was 500 and in Lahore 600.

                          He further told that after convincing their parents by the polio workers the number of refusal cases decreases to 8,000 out of the total 13,000.

                          He said that a comprehensive strategy had been formed to end doubts and convince parents to administer polio drops to their children, adding that authorities are persistently trying to approach and convince parents who did not allow health workers to administer polio drops to their children...
