Padua, January 26 2013
The 9th floor of Padua Hospital main block ward has been closed after an outbreak of winter vomiting bug that put on sick leave part of the ward's staff (nurses and doctors) and infecting some of the inpatients.
Cases started to appear during the last week, when a number of patients and staff workers fell ill with gastrointestinal symptoms such as vomiting and diarrhea. Some developed fever too.
Laboratory tests indicates that norovirus is the likely cause of the outbreak.
The ward has been closed to visitors and patients are under close surveillance for symptoms.
An extraordinary cleaning has been performed also.
