    After the massive infections in four private hospitals in Durango, the death toll continues to increase in cases of meningitis, as reported by Dr. Hugo Adolfo Almonte de León, Deputy Medical Director of HG450 at the Health Update press conference.

    According to the Ministry of Health until December 19, there are 27 dead people, 75 confirmed cases, 72 women and 3 men; as well as 12 hospital discharges, the latter remain under home observation.

    Three patients were transferred to the National Institute of Neurology and Neurosurgery in Mexico City in order to prevent complications.

    In addition, 187 health workers have had to be hired, including specialist doctors, surgeons, nursing staff, nutritionists and stretcher-bearers.

    Monitoring is also maintained via telephone with a special brigade for possible cases treated in the different hospitals of the state.
    Special Attention to Victims of Meningitis

    According to Engineer David Payan, Coordinator of Special Care for Victims of Meningitis and family members, protocol care has been provided to 545 people who were in the private hospitals that unleashed the infections.

    In addition, 219 aids have been granted in diapers and milk, 194 aids in free transportation, 358 psychological interventions to patients and relatives. 22 free funeral support for family members and 2,500 food rations.

      With the 25 discharges that have been registered, there are 23 people hospitalized for meningitis in six different hospitals, the General 450 and the Maternal and Child Hospital, both from the Ministry of Health; the General of Zone One of the IMSS of the city of Durango and the 71 of the same Social Security but in the city of Torreón, Coahuila; the ISSSTE Zone Hospital in the same city of Durango; the National Institute of Neurosurgery in CDMX and another one in Texas, United States.

      There are already more people discharged for meningitis than hospitalized, 25 against 23 respectively.

      Of the 1,800 records of people who underwent surgery with anesthesia in the four closed hospitals, 556 people have been medically and laboratory evaluated, 31 percent. Of the rest, many did not require lumbar puncture, and only a few remain to be located. 50 people from those files.

      465 hours of psychological care have been provided to both patients and relatives of people with meningitis.

        López-Gatell clarifies that an outbreak of meningitis in Durango is not aseptic and is not contagious

        Since it originated from a fungus, Hugo López-Gatell Ramírez, Undersecretary for Prevention and Health Promotion, stressed that the meningitis that has occurred in Durango is not aseptic, during the press conference of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.

                    Ana Laura is the 36th victim of meningitis, this after October of last year the first cases of this disease began to be disclosed, which to date has resulted in the infection of 79 people, mostly women who came to have their children in one of the four private hospitals identified as responsible for the contagion.

                    Just last Friday, a demonstration was held in which the relatives of those who have died for this reason participated, as well as some patients receiving treatment at home, however they have resulted in motor impairments such as lack of sensation in their legs after be diagnosed with this fungus.

                    Regarding the issue, the Secretary of Health of Durango, Irasema Kondo Padilla, announced that there are currently two patients in serious condition, one of whom is in the General Hospital 450 and one more in the High Specialty Medicine Unit of the IMSS in Torreón Coahuila; in addition to two stable patients admitted to the General Hospital 450.
