    A case of invasive meningococcal disease has been notified in a 21-year-old male from metropolitan Adelaide. The patient has been admitted to hospital and is in a serious condition.

    The strain has been identified as serogroup B.

    SA Health has identified multiple people who had contact with the patient, of whom three people have been directed to receive clearance antibiotics...

      A 36-year-old Australian man has died at home from invasive meningococcal disease as concern mounts cases are tracking far above the same time last year.

      The man, from metropolitan Adelaide, died from the rare but extremely serious illness in his home, according to an SA Health statement issued on Friday.

      SA Health said his was the 12th case of the invasive form of the contagious disease reported in South Australia so far in 2022...

        A WA child has been diagnosed with meningococcal disease and is recovering at home, health authorities have confirmed.

        It marks the 14th case reported in the State so far this year and at least eighth child to contract the life-threatening illness.

        Of the 14 cases in WA this year, nine were serogroup B, three were serogroup W and two were serogroup Y...

          This year’s meningococcal cases have already overtaken last year’s total as more Australians are socialising post-covid.

          Cases of invasive meningococcal disease have risen to 86, ahead of last year’s total of 74, according to National Notifiable Diseases Surveillance System data.
