    Nigeria: 13 Die in Suspected Meningitis Outbreak in Katsina C

    Katsina ? No fewer than 13 people lost their lives in an outbreak of communicable disease suspected to be meningitis at Karfi Village in Malumfashi local government area of Katsina State.

    It was gathered that 12 of the victims died at their home while one out of the three persons rushed to the Primary Health Care (PHC) Centre in the village reportedly lost his life while receiving treatment at the health facility.

    The PHC coordinator of the area, Lawal Dabai, was said to have made this known while briefing the state Emergency Preparedness Response Team that visited the affected community.

    Consequently, the state medical team had mobilised to the area to contain the spread of the disease, the permanent secretary in the State Ministry of Health, Dr Kabir Mustapha, told LEADERSHIP Friday, yesterday...

    Meningitis kills eight in Borgu, Niger

    The Executive Director, Niger State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Usman Ndanusa, has confirmed that cerebrospinal meningitis has claimed eight lives in Borgu Local Government Area of the state.

    Mr Ndanusa, who is a Pharmacist, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Minna.

    He said it is absurd that the disease keeps on claiming lives annually because people see it as a jinx or evil spirit that can be handled traditionally instead of by orthodox medicine.

    He said the agency has begun sensitisation to curb the epidemic so that it does not spread to neighbouring local government areas.

    According to him, Magama, Borgu, Agwara and Mariga Rijau local government areas were usually flashpoints of the disease but only Borgu has so far lost eight people to the scourge from March till date...

      Nigeria: 44 Nigerians Die of Cerebrospinal Meningitis

      As the Cerebrospinal Meningitis (CSM) season reaches its peak in Nigeria, no fewer than 44 people have died from the disease, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has disclosed.

      The NCDC declared that the 2018/2019 meningitis season began on October 1. The agency said in preparation for this year's outbreak, all states in the meningitis belt were formally placed on alert on November 8, 2018...

        Bauchi records four cases of meningitis

        The Bauchi State Government has confirmed recording four suspected cases of Cerebro‎-Spinal Meningitis in the state.
        Adamu Gamawa, the Executive Chairman, Bauchi State Primary Health Care Development Agency, confirmed the outbreak to newsmen in Bauchi on Thursday.

        Gamawa said one of the suspected cases was confirmed to be a Streptococcus Pneumonia, a strain which does not cause an epidemic.

        He added that one other case was under investigation as samples had been taken for analysis to confirm whether it ‎is meningitis or another disease...
