    Last night in an email addressed to students, faculty and staff, a message was sent from university administration about the confirmed diagnosis of a case of meningococcemia, a bloodstream infection that can also cause meningitis. The infected student lives off campus and is already receiving treatment, according to the email sent by Dr. Taylor Rushing, the director of M.S.     An Appalachian State University student who lives off campus has been diagnosed with meningococcemia, the university announced Saturday...

    ...The release said efforts are underway to identify and contact people possibly at risk of exposure to meningococcemia in this particular situation.

    The N.C. Division of Public Health is asking anyone who patronized any of three Boone establishments at certain times to contact AppHealthCare?s on call nurse at 828-264-4995 ext. 8 for prophylactic treatment.

    These are:

    ? Boone Saloon on Aug. 22 between 11 p.m. and 2 a.m.;

    ? The Local on Aug. 23 between 11 p.m. and 2 a.m.;

    ? Caf? Portofino on Aug. 25 between 11 p.m. and 2 a.m.

    ?These locations are named only for the reason of narrowing our efforts to identify those at risk.
