    The Yobe Commissioner for Health, Dr Bello Kawuwa, said the state has recorded 10 new cases of Cebro Spinal Meningitis with three deaths this year.

    He disclosed this on Wednesday at the flag off of measles vaccination campaign in Damaturu.
    Kawuwa said the state government in collaboration with National Primary Healthcare Development Agency and development partners have commenced early campaign and vaccination of children from one to six years old...

    Meningitis kills 4 in central Nigeria

    ABUJA, Feb. 22 (Xinhua) -- Nigerian health authorities said Wednesday that four people have died following an outbreak of cerebrospinal meningitis in central Nigeria and warned the disease could spread due to the hot weather.

    Laboratory tests have confirmed 31 additional cases of meningitis, an acute inflammation of the brain and spinal cord, in some areas of the central state of Niger.

      The Federal Capital Territory Administration, says the cause of the death of three pupils of the Local Education Authority Primary School, Kubwa, Abuja, was caused by Cerebrospinal Meningitis.

      The pupils reportedly died after eating biscuit shared during a classmate?s birthday celebration in the school.

      It was gathered that the three students died of the same symptoms, bleeding from the ears and from the nose...

          Suspected meningitis outbreak ravages community in Jigawa

          A suspected outbreak of Cerebral Spinal Meningitis (CSM) is currently ravaging Majiya town in Taura local government area of Jigawa state.

          Although health officials were not forthcoming on the details of casualties so far, a PREMIUM TIMES reporter was able to speak with some families who lost their loved ones to the scourge.

          When contacted on the phone, the commissioner of health, Abba Zakari, confirmed the ?outbreak? but could not give a figure of those affected. He said he would compile the report and brief journalists tomorrow, Wednesday.

          However, investigation by PREMIUM TIMES ‎revealed that many of the reported victims started with complaints of fever and numbness in their legs.

          Ali Sunusi, father to three-year-old Khadija, who reportedly died three days ago from the ailment, said he did all he could to save his only daughter when, ?she started feeling feverish.?...

            The Jigawa State Government says meningitis has killed 15 persons as 51 suspected cases were recorded in 10 local government areas of the state.

            PREMIUM TIMES had on Tuesday first reported a suspected outbreak of Cerebral Spinal Meningitis (CSM) ravaging Majiya town in Taura local government area of Jigawa state.

              Eight dead as meningitis hits Katsina again

              No fewer than eight persons were reportedly killed by a fresh outbreak of meningitis in Bugaje ward in Jibia Local government area of Katsina State.

              The Information Officer in the area, Saadu Suleiman, told newsmen that the outbreak leading to the death of the five males and three females was recorded within Monday and Friday.

              He said several others were hospitalized at the health Centre in Bugaje.

              According to him, ?we recorded a fresh case of Cerebral Spinal Meningitis, CSM in Bugaje ward that claimed the lives of about eight persons.?...

                Death Toll Rises To 15 In Katsina Meningitis Outbreak

                Katsina ? About eight persons in Bugaje community of Jibia Local Government Area of Katsina State were, in the late hours of Saturday, confirmed dead following a fresh outbreak of cerebral spinal meningitis in the area.

                The outbreak, which claimed the lives of five males and three females, was said to have occurred between last Monday and Friday.

                But Dr. Marriatu Bala Usman, the state Commissioner of Health, could not be reached for comments as at press time.

                Early this month, there was an outbreak of meningitis in Jaja village, Gangara ward in Jibia Local Government Area of the state where seven died and many others hospitalised...
