    Authorities are confident a case of meningococcal disease has been isolated and contained after a student at Wellington's Massey University campus contracted the potentially deadly infection.

    The case follows the death from meningitis of 20-year-old Brittany Arthur, a nursing student, who died in Dunedin Hospital 10 days ago.

    In May a Wellington person in their 60s died after contracting a strand of the disease that cannot be immunised against.

    Annette Nesdale, greater Wellington Medical Officer of Health, said the Massey student, in his 20s, had been treated with antibiotics and was doing well.

    Meanwhile about 10 of his close contacts had been found and put on antibiotics while casual contacts had been given information about the disease...
