    NEW BRUNSWICK ? Rutgers University students should consider getting a new vaccine for meningitis B after a student was diagnosed with the strain of the contagious disease, campus officials said.

    Two Rutgers students on the Piscataway-New Brunswick campus have been diagnosed with bacterial meningitis in the last two months, school officials said. The contagious infection, which can kill or cause serious disabilities, begins with flu-like symptoms...

      Officials: No common link in Rutgers meningitis cases

      RUTGERS - Two Rutgers University students who tested positive for meningitis acquired genetically identical bacteria, according to a university official.

      No common link was found between the two cases, suggesting the strain is present on the Rutgers University-New Brunswick campus, Melodee Lasky, the university's assistant vice chancellor for health & wellness, said in a statement on Wednesday.

      "Although there have been only two cases, public health officials are concerned that this may represent an outbreak since the two cases have occurred over a relatively short period of time," Lasky said. "Of course, we cannot predict whether there will be additional cases of MenB associated with Rutgers University-New Brunswick."...
