    MOH: Seven malaria infection deaths detected thus far

    IPOH (July 17): The Health Ministry (MOH) has confirmed that seven deaths involving malaria infection were detected from Jan 2 to July 9 this year.

    Deputy Health Minister Datuk Dr Noor Azmi Ghazali said of the total, six cases were reported from zoonotic malaria infection, while one case involved local human malaria infection.

    “For zoonotic malaria deaths, two cases were reported in Terengganu and Sabah, with one case in Sarawak and Pahang. One case of death involving local human malaria occurred in Johor,” he said in a press conference, after officiating the national level of the World Malaria Day 2022 event at the Sultan Azlan Shah Roundabout here on Sunday (July 17)...

    Penang blames urban malaria crisis on influx of foreign workers

    KEPALA BATAS: Penang is experiencing an urban malaria crisis following the influx of foreign nationals into the state’s various economic sectors.

    State health director Dr Ma’arof Sudin said employers with foreign workers should provide information to the nearest district health office on their workers who come from malaria endemic countries...

    ...“In Malaysia, up to the 30th epidemiological week, 2022, the reported number of cumulative malaria cases was at 1,611, with 90.3% of zoonotic malaria infections caused by the Plasmodium knowlesi parasite spread to humans through host animals such as macaques.

    “The other 9.7% were human malaria infection cases with 96% of these being imported cases that were detected in Malaysia,” he added.
