According to the coordinator of the National Malaria Control Program, Jos? Martins, from January to March this year, 2,065,673 cases and 2,548 deaths were recorded, figures that he did not consider worrying.

Jos? Martins said, in statements to Angolan public radio, that there were 190,398 more cases compared to 2019 and added that there is a strategic plan during the covid-19 pandemic, where all operational components are defined.

According to the official, the strategy consists mainly of preventive action, namely with the spraying inside and outside the home, the distribution of mosquito nets and the administration of intermittent preventive treatment against malaria to pregnant women.

"Right now, there are no breaks in relation to this particular component. Rapid tests are being distributed to create testing conditions in a timely manner and also treatments for severe malaria, which is what the provinces have been asking for," he said. .

Malaria is the leading cause of death in Angola, as well as school and work absenteeism and hospital admissions.
