    A MALARIA outbreak has hit Maramba and-PFungwe in Mashonaland East province, with 584 villagers falling ill in the past two weeks.

    The outbreak comes as the nation is grappling to contain the COVID-19 outbreak, which has infected 14 people leading to three fatalities.

    A number of health officials have been deployed to deal with coronavirus, leaving villagers vulnerable to malaria, one of the killer diseases in Africa...

      The Ministry of Health has reported that malaria has killed 131 people in Zimbabwe in the past months. According to the Ministry, the cumulative figures for malaria are 135 585 and 131 deaths.

      The statistics from the Ministry are as follows:

      A total of 201 malaria outbreaks have been reported throughout the country mostly from malarious provinces such as Manicaland, Masvingo and Mash East...

          Finally, After 205 Deaths, Govt Sees It Fit To Screen For Covid-19 On Strange Malaria Cases

          State Media|Covid-19 screening and testing will beintegrated into malaria response to mitigate the recent spike in deaths and cases, with the death toll hitting 205, so far this year.

          This would mean capacitating community health workers who are instrumental in malaria response in most rural communities to screen and test for Covid-19 and providing them with personal protective equipment.

          The consideration followed challenges noted by Government that were prompted by the outbreak of Covid-19, although malaria so far remains the most dangerous.

          Statistics on malaria availed by Government showed that deaths shot up from 127 between January 1 and April 23 last year to 205 in the same four months this year.

          Similarly, cases have also increased from 117 715 last year to 203 964 this year between January and April...

            ZIMBABWE has recorded a 19 percent increase in Malaria cases, with projections showing new cases may continue on the upward trend due to the Covid-19 disruptions.

            According to the recently released Zimbabwe Annual 2019 Report by the Centre of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the country recorded 310 000 cases up from 260 000 in 2018,the previous year.

            CDC says malaria heavily burdened districts in Zimbabwe include Binga, Gokwe North, Beitbridge, Hwange, Mbire, Rushinga, Mudzi, Nyanga, Mutasa and Chimhanimhani.

            The Ministry of Health and Child Care recently said 279 people have died of malaria this year amid reports that 306 365 have been infected so far this year.

            In April this year, the deaths stood at 201 with 185 585 cases countrywide.

            Most of these deaths were attributed to the emergence of the Covid-19 pandemic which has interfered with the health seeking behaviour of citizens due to lockdown conditions...
