    Four dead, over 100 others in hospital after malaria outbreak in Baringo

    Four people have died and over 100 others admitted to hospital after a malaria outbreak in Baringo County.

    The deceased are two children and two adults from Kongor.

    ?My teams are on the ground, screening and treating the residents and will monitor to reduce risk of more of them developing the same symptoms,? Baringo Health CEC Mary Panga said.

    The patients from Tirioko ward in Tiaty east sub county had complained of vomiting, headache and fever.

    Areas most affected are Kulol, Kaghat, Kongor, Chesawach, Akoret, Kapau, Atirir, Chesotim, Lokis, Ng?aina, Korelach and Krese...

    The Ministry of Health has confirmed an outbreak of malaria in Tiaty, Baringo County.

    Public health chief officer, Winnie Bore said samples taken for tests in the Government laboratory have turned positive.

    Dr Bore said the tests were conducted after up to 100 patients went to Chemolingot Sub-county hospital and several other health facilities with malaria symptoms such as fever, vomiting, diarrhea, profuse sweating, nausea and general body weakness.

      Health workers have been put on high alert following a suspected outbreak of malaria in Kerio Valley.

      This comes even as the county health department expressed fear that it is running out of anti-malaria drugs.

      According to the health department, tests indicate that cases of malaria have increased five-fold in public health facilities in the area in the last two weeks raising fears of a possible outbreak.
