    Colombia: Malaria outbreak reported in Cauca Department

    Health officials are reporting a malaria outbreak in Cauca Department in southwestern Colombia, according to a RCNRadio report (computer translated).

    The outbreak has affected 322 people in the rural areas of Guapi and Timbiqu?: ( the towns of Calle larga, Bel?n, San Agust?n, Pascualero and Cascajero ( in Guapi ) and in the mining area of Santa Mar?a, Chac?n Playa and Coteje ( in Timbiqu? )).

    The strain of malaria was identified as Plasmodium falciparum...

    Over 23,600 Cases of Malaria This Year in Colombia
    ogota, Apr 26 (Prensa Latina) Over 23,600 cases of malaria are registered in Colombia so far this year, the Ministry of Health reported today.

    The health authorities specified that 60 percent of the patients are concentrated in the department of Choco and other regions of the Colombian Pacific.
