    Kenya Red Cross regional coordinator Talaso Chucha said a report given by the County Steering Group showed that 15 people among them three children below the age of five had died.

    Fifteen people have died of malaria in Dukana, Illeret and North Horr wards, Marsabit County following an outbreak in the last one week.

    According to Marsabit County director of preventive health services Dr Boru Okutu, 136 patients tested positive of Malaria.

    Two deaths were reported in Illeret while 13 others succumbed in Dukana and North Horr.

    At least six children have died from an outbreak of Malaria in Tiaty Sub-county as the nurses strike continues, forcing desperate villagers to resort to age-old ritual to ward-off disease.

    The onset of the rainy season brought relief from the dry spell, but also brought disease to Tirioko Ward residents. In the last few days, a disease showing symptoms similar to those of Malaria has plagued the residents, with the situation worsening with the strike that has paralyzed public health sector for more than three months now...

      At least 30 people have died of malaria in Kenya's Marsabit and Baringo counties in the past week.
      Seventeen of them ? mostly adults below 40 years and children ? were from four wards, Dukana, North Horr, Illeret and Loiyangalani, in the northern Marsabit county, while 13 were from Tiaty in Baringo in the Rift Valley.
      In Baringo, four more people died at the Chemolingot sub-county hospital in Tiaty constituency Wednesday, bringing the death toll from the disease to 13 in the past week...

        SUMMARY So far the death toll has reached 20 and if help does not come, situation will worsen To manage the situation an official disclosed that from tomorrow, KDF medical officers will erect a treatment camp in one of the affected areas to reach out to more patients

        Malaria has so far claimed over 20 lives in Tiaty sub county, Baringo County since its outbreak two weeks ago, with majority being children under five years. The deaths have so far been reported in Silale (nine), Kolowa (15), Akoret (seven), Kongor (five), Rotu (one), Lokis (four)...

          Malaria Outbreak Kills 4 at Kenyan Refugee Camp

          A malaria outbreak has killed at least four people at a refugee camp in northwestern Kenya, according to local residents and health officials.

          Hundreds of people have come down with the infectious disease at the Kalobeyei refugee complex in Kenya's Turkana County.

          "Already four to six people have died due to malaria," Galama Guyo, a health care professional at Kalobeyei, told VOA's Horn of Africa service. "Weekly, we report more than 200 malaria cases, especially people with low body resistance [immunity]."

          Health care providers do not have enough drugs to treat patients, and there is no major hospital in the area, so some patients have to travel to up to 30 kilometers for treatment, he said.

          The type of malaria hitting the camps is plasmodium falciparum, one of four types common in the Horn of Africa, said Guyo...
