    Five people were hospitalized for fear they contracted the potentially dangerous disease Leptospirosis, Maayeni Hayeshua Medical Center announced Wednesday.

    Four were hiking near a kayaking site at the Jordan River and began to discover symptoms that resembled Leptospirosis about two weeks later.

    The fifth was hiking in a different spot along the Jordan River and had previously gone to the hospital last Friday, but returned Wednesday after feeling ill, the hospital said...

    Israel to hold emergency talks on outbreak of fatal leptospirosis disease

    Several of Israel's high-level ministries will convene an emergency meeting on Sunday in response the recent outbreak of a fatal bacterial disease passed via animal urine known as leptospirosis.

    Hosted by the Health Ministry, senior representatives from the Finance and Agriculture Ministries as well as officials from Israel?s Water Authority, the Israel Nature & Parks Authority, the Cattle Farmers Union and a number of several local authorities will gather in a bid to coordinate efforts to tackle the endemic.

    So far, 32 people have been diagnosed with leptospirosis and 253 cases in total have been examined according to the Health Ministry...
