    HIGHLIGHTS

    In the reporting Week 15 (April 8 ? 14th, 2019) 3 new confirmedi cases were reported from two states - Edo(1) and Plateau(2) states with no new death

    From 1st January to 14th April,2019, a total of 2217 suspectedi cases have been reported from 21 states. Of these, 540 were confirmed positive, 15 probable and 1662 negative(not a case)-Table 1

    Since the onset of the 2019 outbreak, there have been 122 deaths in confirmed cases. Case fatality ratio in confirmed cases is 22.6% -Table 1...

        The Kogi Government has confirmed four cases of Lassa fever in the 2019 outbreak of the disease in the state.

          LAGOS, Nigeria

          The emergency phase was lifted in the Lassa fever outbreak in Nigeria, the country?s Center for Disease Control (NCDC) said on Friday.

          Chikwe Ihekweazu, the NCDC director general, said in a statement that 129 persons died of the hemorrhaging fever outbreak in at least 21 Nigerian state of total 36.

          Nigeria declared Lassa fever emergency in January as many people were infected with the disease virus in many states. The disease was first discovered in the country in the 1960s.

          The case count of the disease significantly shrank in the past seven weeks and dropped below levels considered to be a national emergency, Ihekweazu said...

              Nigeria: Death Toll Spikes in Nigeria Rats Borne Fever

              Abuja ? At least 139 people have died from an escalating outbreak of the Lassa fever in Nigeria.

              The deaths from the illness transmitted by rats have been documented from 2 960 suspected cases, of which 615 have been confirmed positive.

              No less than two health workers have died, out of 18 that were infected.

              Lassa broke out at the beginning of the year, the latest setback to the disease-prone West African country.

              Some 22 states, out of Nigeria's total of 36 states, have outbreaks...

                Five people have been confirmed dead from the outbreak of Lassa fever in Benue State.

                Program Officer, Risk Communication Desk, National Centre for Disease Control, Mrs Hanatu Bello confirmed this to journalists in Makurdi, Benue State capital on Friday.

                According to the Programs Officer, reports of 21 suspected cases of Lassa fever were received from the state out of which eight cases were confirmed while five infected persons have also died...

                  In the reporting week 42 (14th – 20th October, 2019) thirteen new confirmedii cases were reported from Edo(6), Ondo(6) and Benue(1) states with two new deaths from Ondo and Benue states

                  From 1 st January to 20th October 2019, a total of 4209 suspectedi cases have been reported from 23 states. Of these, 739 were confirmed positive, 19 probable and 3451 negative (not a case)

                  Since the onset of the 2019 outbreak, there have been 156 deaths in confirmed cases. Case fatality ratio in confirmed cases is 21.1%

                  Twenty-three (23) States (Edo, Ondo, Bauchi, Nasarawa, Ebonyi, Plateau, Taraba, Adamawa,
                  Gombe, Kaduna, Kwara, Benue, Rivers, Kogi, Enugu, Imo, Delta, Oyo, Kebbi, Cross River, Zamfara,

                    The National Centre for Disease Control on Wednesday said 113 suspected cases of Lassa fever were reported in 12 council areas in nine states and the Federal Capital Territory.

                    The NCDC said on its website that 13 of the cases were confirmed, with two deaths recorded.

                          Alleged Ebonyi Lassa fever outbreak: Umahi orders closure of hospital

                          Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State has ordered the immediate closure of St Vincent Hospital at Igbagu, Izzi Local Government Area of Ebonyi, following suspected outbreak of Lassa fever at the hospital.

                          The order is contained in a statement issued on Friday in Abakaliki by the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Media, Mr. Francis Nwaze.

                          Umahi also said all the members of staff and patients of the hospital should submit themselves to the Virology Centre at Abakaliki for comprehensive medical examinations.

                          The governor also said all the family members and close relations of the patients of St Vincent Hospital be quarantined at the South-East Virology Centre for close medical observation.

                          Umahi assured residents that the state government, through its ministry of health, would contain the spread of the disease and urged the public not to panic...

                          At least five persons have died in Igbeagu Izzi, Ebonyi State, following an outbreak of Lassa fever epidemic in the area.

                          Consequently, the Ebonyi State government, has ordered an immediate closure of St. Vincent’s Hospital, Ndubia in Igbegu Izzi in Izzi Local Government Area of the state due to reported deaths and increasing spread of Lassa fever disease at the hospital.

                          Our correspondent gathered that out of over ten Lassa fever patients reportedly admitted at the hospital, no fewer than five patients were said to have died at the as at Thursday December 26...
