    Seven people have been confirmed dead following the outbreak of kala-azar in Marsabit county.

    In March, 44 people from Log logo, Kor and Laisamis were admitted to the general hospital and they all tested positive for kala-azar...

    Leishmaniasis outbreak in Kenya nears 2,000 cases

    Disease outbreaks continue to plague Kenya and according to the Ministry of Health, outbreaks of cholera and measles continue in the country.

    In addition, Kenya is reporting a large outbreak of the parasitic disease, visceral leishmaniasis (Kala Azar). Since January through the first week of August, a total of 1,986 cases of leishmaniasis have been reported from Marsabit, Wajir and Garissa counties. Marsabit county has been hit the hardest reporting 1,716 suspected cases with 19 deaths.

    Overall in Kenya, 27 deaths have been recorded...

      Kenya leishmaniasis update: Two dozen cases reported in past week

      In an update on the leishmaniasis situation in Kenya, officials reported an additional 24 cases during the week ending Oct. 6.

      This brings the total cases reported in 2019 to 2,696, including 34 deaths.

      Since the beginning of the outbreak, suspected and confirmed cases of leishmaniasis have been reported from Mandera, Marsabit, Wajir and Garissa counties...

        Kala-azar killed 34 people in Northeastern this year
        Outbreak still active in Marsabit and Garissa, 23 people in Marsabit and two in Garissa currently on treatment

        • Affected subcounties are Laisamis with 2,019 cases, Moyale (55), North Horr (112) and Saku (64) all suspected and confirmed.

          Leishmaniasis in Kenya: Dozens of new cases reported

          Health officials continue to report cases of the parasitic disease, Leishmaniasis in Kenya. During the week ending December 8, officials saw 34 additional cases.

          This brings the Leishmaniasis outbreak tally this year to 2,822, including 34 deaths.

          Most cases of leishmaniasis have been reported from Mandera, Marsabit, Wajir and Garissa counties...
