    Hepatitis A outbreak infects 14 in Nashville; vaccines advised for gay men, drug users

    Fourteen people have contracted hepatitis A in Nashville in the last six months, causing the Metro Public Health Department to offer free vaccinations for illicit drug users, gay and bisexual men and the homeless population.

    Health officials announced the outbreak on Friday afternoon and said vaccinations will begin Tuesday. Vaccines can be obtained at three public health centers:

    East Health Center at 1015 East Trinity Lane
    Lentz Health Center at 2500 Charlotte Ave.
    And Woodbine Health Center at 224 Oriel Ave...

      NASHVILLE, TN -- Davidson County's hepatitis outbreak continues to spread, as the health department confirmed there have been 23 cases, including four at the jail, since the outbreak began in December.

      "We are early in this response, but based on what we know about hepatitis A and the initial cases, we anticipate the outbreak and response could continue over many months," Joanna Shaw-KaiKai, M.D., an infectious disease physician at the Metro Public Health Department, said in a release. "The Health Department's top objectives in responding are to investigate cases, identify contacts in a timely manner, and increase prevention and vaccination awareness among the community and clinical partners."...

                56 Cases Of Hep A Confirmed In Nashville Since December

                NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Fifty-six cases of hepatitis A have been confirmed in Nashville since December 2017.

                The Metro Public Health Department continues to work with the Tennessee Department of Health (TDH), as well as other Metro Departments and community organizations in response to the outbreak.

                So far, hundreds of vaccines have been distributed to at-risk groups...

                    Health Department Investigates Possible Hepatitis A Exposure In Jails; County Has Had 12 Hepatitis A Cases Already This Year

                    The Chattanooga-Hamilton County Health Department is working to make contact with females who were held at the Hamilton County Jail the afternoon of Thursday, July 26, through the morning of Friday, July 27, and/or any females who were held at the Silverdale Detention Center on Friday, July 27. The Health Department is investigating a case of hepatitis A who was held in these facilities during these dates and times. The individual was only in the temporary female holding areas and not mixed in with the general jail populations at either facility.

                    As of Friday, 12 cases of hepatitis A have been reported in Hamilton County since May. Normally, the county has 0-1 cases per year...
